Financial journalists were roundly criticized for weak reporting in the lead-up to the 2008 crisis, but the latest round of Pulitzer Prizes, announced yesterday, provides some redemption. No less than five were granted to business reporters. Here they are, with links through to the winners so you can read them if you haven’t yet:
The Public Service award: LA Times for its investigation of corruption in the small municipality of Bell, California
The Investigative Reporting award: Paige St John (pictured at left) of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune for her coverage of Florida’s property-insurance system
The National Reporting award: Jesse Eisinger and Jake Bernstein of Propublica for their story on the Magnetar trade
The Commentary award: The New York Times’ economics columnist David Leonhardt
The Editorial Writing award: Joseph Rago of the Wall Street Journal, for these stories
