March, Money and Mops

By: Neerja Caprihan

If only things could be wished away. A list of such things would include unpleasant tidings, unreasonable people, unkind words, unplanned occurrences, unfair rules, unused clutter, unwelcome filth – one can go on and on. While these cannot all be removed magically with a snap of fingers, few can be swept aside with some physical or mental labor. Some that cause emotional turmoil need to be cast aside mentally to enable us to focus on our goals and get on with our lives. Fortunately for us, a few others can really be removed literally with a broom, a cloth and some cleaning agents.

It is indeed that time of the year. Spring is in the air. As is cleaning.

It’s a great way to transition from the harsh winters to the bright summers. There is an infectious energy in nature that helps bring in hope and positivity. And we embrace it whole-heartedly as we go about tidying up our spaces to make way for that energy to illuminate all the musty corners of our homes and lives. If you are looking for a way to begin a round of spring-cleaning your living spaces, there are some neat tips here

But what has that got to do with our world of investing? It’s interesting how the following observation about spring cleaning in the article above holds good even for investing:

“Spring is the time to do the tasks that have been nagging at you, and that will give you the greatest sense of accomplishment and satisfaction to check off your to-do list”

So, how about spring cleaning your investment portfolio? It’s a perfect time to review your finances and prepare for the journey ahead.

  •  Give online investing with us a go, if you have been putting that off all this while. You may find it to be quicker and easier than most of the cleaning chores in your home right now!

The ESG variants of the Socially Responsible Investing portfolios use an Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) investment strategy. Such a strategy could limit the types and number of investment opportunities available to this portfolio, lead the portfolio to underperform a portfolio without an ESG focus or with a distinct ESG focus, and result in the portfolio investing in securities or industry sectors that underperform the market as a whole or foregoing opportunities to invest in securities that might otherwise be advantageous to invest in. Interactive Advisors could also be unsuccessful in creating a portfolio investing in stocks of companies or ETFs made up of companies that exhibit positive or favorable ESG characteristics and the ETF manager (or the provider of the index the ETF seeks to track) may not succeed in selecting issuers that exhibit positive or favorable ESG characteristics in constructing the ETFs.

Diversification of assets (which Interactive Advisors uses to reduce the risk of investment in this portfolio) does not ensure a profit or protect against investment loss. All investments, including those in this portfolio, involve the risk of loss, including possible loss of the money invested and a reduction in earnings.
