Davos1 came. Davos saw. But Davos did not conquer. Or at least did not conquer on the sustainability front. It’s not like sustainability did not get its fair share of attention. The conversations2 did flow. But the end results needed to be less words and more action. It left us all wanting more, and certainly not on the political front. By the end, there seemed to be a lot more fluff, but sadly a lot less actual stuff.
Amid a volatile world environment charged with fragile egos of the power groups, the fractured dynamics of geopolitics, planetary resources stretching thin, widening economic disparities and a morally-weakened social fabric, the degradation is unmistakable in the planet and its people. So when such congregations occur, it feels only right that they should result in concrete initiatives that are smart and practical enough to have a positive impact on the world and its people.
If the world leaders are unable to see eye to eye, then formulating a plan becomes that much more difficult. As national representatives, and largely elected ones at that, it is incumbent upon those in privileged positions to look past selfish or petty motives. They need to use such forums as the perfect opportunity to sit together and look at matters from a long-term, symbiotic perspective, one that also keeps the concerns of the mute, the marginalized or the not-so-moneyed, in mind.
The causes are many. And each one is just as important as the other in our hope of a brighter future. And collaboration3 is very much the key. The Earth does not belong to any one individual or country. And it need not have to suffer the consequences of the decisions of a handful.
We are all shareholders of this exquisite asset, that is our planet. So while the leaders collaborate at the level of countries, each one of us has an equal responsibility to care for this amazing planet we all call home. It’s time we showed some love to it. This love can make itself felt in many ways, in all shapes and sizes, but as long as we – the people, are aware, willing and socially responsible, we are unstoppable no matter where we are. A little tender, loving, care will really go a long way here.
Goodbye Davos, Welcome Valentine’s Day.

Interactive Advisors could also be unsuccessful in creating a portfolio investing in stocks of companies or ETFs made up of companies that exhibit positive or favorable ESG characteristics and the ETF manager (or the provider of the index the ETF seeks to track) may not succeed in selecting issuers that exhibit positive or favorable ESG characteristics in constructing the ETFs.
