A Matter of Life and Breath

By: Neerja Caprihan

Do you feel that everything these days is too fast-paced? Stillness is a quality that is virtually absent from urban societies. Little wonder then that the pursuit of tranquility, calm or peace is the primary objective of most of our vacations and increasingly, vocations. That craving to slow down the feeling of always being in a rush to get things done, only to rinse and repeat.

Finding peace, specifically that elusive inner peace, is the key to harnessing the power of the universe 1, even if that profound observation comes from an unlikely source! Ever so often, fleeting attempts to find inner peace are punctuated by disjointed thoughts and to-do lists that have an uncanny way of coming to the head at that very moment. The struggle to prevent the ‘inner peace’ quest going the ‘dinner please’ way (coincidentally, from the same franchise 2) is unfortunately frustratingly real, and astonishingly common.

That’s where yoga comes in. And it needs no introduction. In financial parlance – it requires minimum investment and can yield multi-dimensional returns. In short, it’s the perfect foil to our current state of getting nowhere really fast. Learning to go slow, and enjoying the process of getting somewhere, one breath at a time.

What comes to your mind when you visualize a wellness retreat? Possibly yoga, soothing music and lush greenery. All of these come together to help bring about calmness of mind and body, and the feeling of mindful living in harmony with our surroundings. Mindfulness is a quality that helps not just us, but our surroundings and our society, as we empower ourselves to become healthy, spirited, balanced and well-functioning cogs that are vital in the giant wheel.

As the piece on the UN site 3 aptly reads,

“This mindfulness allows one to choose healthier and more sustainable lifestyles. In caring for ourselves, we begin to care for the Earth…”.

If you would like to invest in yourself, join yoga aficionados and music lovers all over the world as the world celebrates Yoga Day alongside Music Day on June 21, 2025.

If you would like to invest with us towards a portfolio like the Mindful Business Models or any other from our vast range of SRI offerings, we are just a breath away.

Interactive Advisors could also be unsuccessful in creating a portfolio investing in stocks of companies or ETFs made up of companies that exhibit positive or favorable ESG characteristics and the ETF manager (or the provider of the index the ETF seeks to track) may not succeed in selecting issuers that exhibit positive or favorable ESG characteristics in constructing the ETFs.
