Everything about this time of the year suggests a gentle winding down. There is an uplifting gaiety in the air as the impending festivities throw their cheerful light on everyone and everything. The to-do list seems unending, but even that to-do list has a happy vibe to it. The kind of list one almost enjoys losing sleep over. Also, the kind you frantically and smugly tick off at the end of the day, only to wake up and add more chores you just remembered.
The spirit of giving envelops us, leaving everyone warm, fuzzy and ecstatic. The brick and mortar shops bustle with a similar verve as they entice shoppers with eye-catching decor and attractive bargains. The online retailers stack up their best products and drop frequent reminders in your mailbox on eclectic gifting ideas and last-minute deals. The pubs and restaurants are decked up in charming decorations in traditional red, white and green tones. And you find yourself unable to resist walking into the bakeries and cafes that have delicious aromas of cinnamon, ginger, hazelnut, nutmeg, chocolate – in short, indulgence wafting out.
You dig into the investments and savings you made through the years, to spend them generously on strangers, friends, neighbors, colleagues, family alike. As you do every year. As you should. Even as you look forward wordlessly, but excitedly, to your own presents. Of course, nobody is ever too old to not like a beautifully wrapped present!
Because the fact is – it is never about the present. It is always about the thought. That the thought comes packaged year after year, sitting prettily under the tree, in an alluring wrapping, with a dainty ribbon, only makes it better!
Hope that in this last month of 2024, your cup is full.
Full of health and happiness. Love and luck. Peace and of course, presents.
Merry Christmas!
