Online brokerage Zecco announced a new Facebook app that provides real-time stock quotes, charts, discussion and yes, active trading from within Facebook. It also gives users the ability to ‘Like’ a stock, and thereafter receive updates on that stock in your Facebook news feed.
The app is called Wall Street. TechCrunch’s Rip Empson comments:
It may take some time for people to get used to the idea of making stock trades on Facebook, considering many people tend not to use the social networking site for financial services, but I think it’s pretty neat that stock trading and free market data has finally come to Facebook — now I can stalk ex-girlfriends and trade my ETFs in one fell swoop.
Neat, maybe, but it’s not clear that anyone of any age would want to actually trade stocks from within Facebook. The information stream via the news feed, however, could absolutely be valuable.
In stock investing, though, at the end of the day the key question is always what to buy, not from where… and that’s where the expertise of talented investors whose own portfolios you can mirror adds real value.
