The Covestor tech team, based in London, keeps everything running smoothly (no small task) and is constantly working on new features and enhancements of our platform. We caught up with our CTO Bimal Shah at his workstation:
So Bimal, what’s your job at Covestor?
Chief Technology Officer. I am responsible for all things tech – which means I get my fingers burnt by various different pies!
What’s the best thing about working here?
The people. We are small enough that we all know each other, and I think we have the beginnings of a company culture – intense, fun, opinionated, encouraging and not taking ourselves too seriously.
What kind of internet services do you admire?
I guess the usual suspects – Google, Twitter – because I have an idea of what it takes to build something simple to use that scales to millions of users. I also like those companies that are taking on established players and industries via the internet. My old employer Betfair and Covestor qualify for that definition.
You’ve been working in online finance for awhile… what’s the big draw?
It’s an information industry and one that is opening up under the pressure of the internet, so things change quickly. Change is attractive!
What gadget could you not live without?
I’m actually not a big gadget person, which I suppose is a bit odd. I need a gadget to make a significant difference to my life or work. The only one I can think of is the iPhone. It saves me having to lug a laptop.
This royal wedding seems to be a big deal in London these days. Would you marry Kate Middleton?
She is a bit too young for me.
