Hungry for M&A? Del Monte, Sara Lee and Crumbs Bake Shop quell your cravings (SLE, DLM)

Cupcakes have been a dessert staple for several years, and many believe that it’s a trend set to be around for a while.  At least, that’s what the 57th Street General Acquisition Corp is hoping since it is buying Crumbs Bake Shop next month, a deal that will result in Crumbs being publicly traded as early as March.

Sara Lee Corp (NYSE: SLE) recently declined the takeover deal that JBS S.A. offered it, and now Apollo Global Management is testing the waters. In the meantime, SLE has decided to separate its meat and coffee businesses in order to form two different companies.

Del Monte Foods Co (NYSE: DLM) also has a deal in the can. The company just finished its go-shop period after receiving an offer from a group of investors, and did not receive any other buyout bids. The investor group will reportedly be paying $19 per share. DLM closed on January 10th at $18.89.
