The end of QE2 means small-caps may underperform – M. Wager (TASR, CRME, NTWK)

Manager: Mike Wagner

Model: Small-Cap Swing Trader

Disclosure: Long TASR, CRME, NTWK, CYTK, ALVR as of time of writing

April started off fairly good for me, as I took some profits in Mad Catz Interactive (AMEX: MCZ) and let the other half of that position ride. Eventually the company did a financing, and I got out of the rest of my position with a decent gain.

Buys of TASER International, Inc. (NASDAQ: TASR) and Cardiome Pharma Corp (NASDAQ: CRME) were probably my only two other really solid trades, but then the market got weird.

Losing trades for the month included NetSol Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: NTWK), Cytokinetics, Inc. (NASDAQ: CYTK) and Alvarion Ltd. (NASDAQ: ALVR).

Perhaps with QE2 finally ending, people will be pulling their money out of the small-caps, and that means I am probably going to be more short biased than normal. But that is just an educated guess.

I have been on a bit of a losing streak lately. They happen. I also have winning streaks. One will come along sooner or later. I’m taking smaller positions now, and trying to play only ideal setups in an effort to get out of this losing streak with minimal losses. Frustrating, yes. End of the world? Not even close…  Losing streaks are a good time to study even harder than usual and possibly learn something.
