Women’s day is round the corner. A brief history of the same is here1. As has been the case with the trajectories of several marginalised groups in the history of the world, it has taken a great number of decades, and an even larger number of people to foreground the rights of women. One of the earliest seminal works2 in this area was by Mary Wollstonecraft. More than 200 years later, here we are as a civilization – still fighting for gender equality.
That said, society has indeed come a long way since and the world now is definitely a far better place. But the struggles of women across different parts of the world are still frequently raw, real and recurring. For every woman that enjoys life on reasonably equal terms, there is a large number that continues its struggle to be seen rightfully and treated fairly.
The celebration of the day can now take on different avatars to suit abilities and sensibilities. There will be greeting cards, and chocolates, and cakes, and flowers, and jewels, and what not. But whatever the modern marketing trends, the fact remains that the day is about recognizing women’s impact and achievement in all spheres of society. This acknowledgment is significant as it paves the way for reducing discrimination and fostering equality.
Here’s a statement from IWD theme page3 that spells out clearly why this day should matter to all of us:
World-renowned feminist, journalist and activist, Gloria Steinem, reportedly once explained: “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
The theme for International Women’s Day 2026 is ‘Give to Gain’. We couldn’t agree more! That is why Socially Responsible portfolios form such an important part of our offerings. We provide you with the opportunity and freedom to create a positive impact by aligning your investments with what you care about. If you feel passionately about challenging biases, and championing inclusivity, you can invest in companies with social justice goals.
Let’s make the Women’s Day celebrations more long-lasting and meaningful!
Happy Women’s Day.

The ESG variants of the Socially Responsible Investing portfolios use an Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) investment strategy. Such a strategy could limit the types and number of investment opportunities available to this portfolio, lead the portfolio to underperform a portfolio without an ESG focus or with a distinct ESG focus, and result in the portfolio investing in securities or industry sectors that underperform the market as a whole or foregoing opportunities to invest in securities that might otherwise be advantageous to invest in. Interactive Advisors could also be unsuccessful in creating a portfolio investing in stocks of companies or ETFs made up of companies that exhibit positive or favorable ESG characteristics and the ETF manager (or the provider of the index the ETF seeks to track) may not succeed in selecting issuers that exhibit positive or favorable ESG characteristics in constructing the ETFs.
